Immigrant Second Generation in Metropolitan New York
This dataset pertains to individuals between the ages of 18 and 32, from immigrant families, and residing in New York city and a selection of surrounding areas. It examines the success or complication of assimilation of immigrants and children from families that immigrated from a number of countries including the former Soviet Union, Taiwan, Ecuador, Peru, and the West Indies. The dataset contains information on race, ethnicity, language, age, education, income, family size, country of origin, and citizenship status.
Unique variables include “language spoken growing up,” “mother’s and father’s ability to speak English,” “experienced prejudice by the police,” and “currently on social security.”
